Starting June 20th, Metro Parks has a really awesome summer play program at local parks around town. Not only do multiple locations offer a USDA lunch program, but they also offer spraygrounds or wading pools, art projects and physical play programs. Most playgrounds programs are during the week from 11:30am-6pm. (Be aware that at some places, the pools close early on Fridays.) Four playgrounds offer the program on Saturdays & Sundays (no lunch is served on those days):
- Wright Park
- Jefferson Park
- McKinley Park
- South Park
While the program is during the day, and on a drop-in basis (no pre-registration required), PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO STAY WITH THE CHILD(REN). There is no sign-in process and the people running the activities do not verify the child stays at the park. So, if you are dealing with younger children who need supervision, the parent needs to stay with them.
