Fetch with Ruff Ruffman

The Pierce County Library system has a great program for kids who want to learn more about science.  This is for grades 3-5 and are great ways to get kids engaged and learning something.  While at the library, consider picking up a book based on the subject you are testing.  In fact, go through the website: http://www.piercecountylibrary.org/Default.htm and reserve the book ahead of time for quick and easy pick up.  Or, if you have a kindle or iPad, download a book for FREE!  These are great ways to reinforce the lessons learned during the event.  Go and have fun!

Winter Volksmarch – NW Trek – UPDATED

Back on! Only a month late, but the event is back on.  The tram is nice, but the walk is amazing too.

I love, love, love this event.  During this event, you get into NW Trek for FREE and receive a 1/2 priced tram ticket.  Volksmarch is a German custom where you get to go on measured walks through native scenery (urban or rural) and there are many clubs dedicated to the past-time.  (Click here for a list of clubs in Washington)

Having lived in Germany for a time, this is a great way to spend time with the family, and outdoors, and pretty cheap too!  Having done this walk many times, I recommend showing up at the beginning of the walk as tram rides fill up fast.  And when you have little ones, the last thing they want to do at the end of a long walk is to wait to ride a train!

March 3rd & 4th (Sat & Sun) from 9am-1pm – Click here for more event details!

Snake Lake Science Fair

While I am a little behind the time for registering for this event, unless you are super-fast with projects.  On March 3rd, the Tacoma Nature Center is hosting a homeschool, public and private school  Science Fair event for children ages 6-18.  Cost is $10 per registration,

My kids are not old enough for this yet, but I do plan to take them to the public viewing between 1:30-2:30.  The viewing appears to be free, but I think it will be a great way to introduce them to a few new concepts and have them think outside the box.  If its not raining, the playgound outside and the trails in the area are great!

The Mary Bridge Million Minute Mission

Mary Bridge and Multi-Care in Tacoma/Pierce County has started its 2012 Million Minute Mission. This mission is for families and workplaces to commit to 1,000,000 minutes of physical activity over four months. That’s right, 4 MONTHS!

We are already behind, unless you know about this event already. Starting February 2nd and finishing June 9th at the Sound to Narrows race. (Is June really only 3 months away??!!!)

Personally, I struggle with my weight. It is a constant battle for me to carve out time for ME to be healthy. I work too many hours and don’t move as much as I should. (I also love bacon, but who doesn’t?) So, it is a personal mission of mine to keep my kids active, away from the TV or Computer or game consul for as long as possible. Their level of activity can drive me more than a little nuts, but I push myself to encourage it. Why? Because I don’t want them falling into my traps. Obesity is a growing problem in our youth and our lifestyle.

So join me in this great opportunity by joining my team. Million Minute Mission and join the FunOnADime team!

Photo Scavenger Hunt at SAM Remix «

This is a totally cool adventure for the Seattlite!  Do a photo scavenger hunt, tweet the results and be entered to win an overnight trip at Inn at the Market as well as a Gauguin & Polynesia prize package.  Remember when you tweet to use the hashtag #SAMRemix.  All entrants will be entered in a drawing for the prizes.  I just might try this out on my lunch break while at work.  Do you go to Seattle very often?  If so, it might be worth a shot, you never know if you don’t play – and some of the picture opportunities look pretty neat.  Photo Scavenger Hunt at SAM Remix «.
