I haven’t reblogged anything for a while, but this struck me as pretty amazing. This blogger is posting random acts of kindness for every day of the year. How great is that? Now, she is offering a weekly challenge to all us other bloggers…a Random Act of Kindness (RAK) a week. I think this is totally doable! Lets all join in and make someones (even our own) day by doing something pretty amazing for someone else.

After posting yesterday about The Random Act of Kindness Foundation, I decided it was time to practice what I preach.   So, every Wednesday, I will post a new Random Act of Kindness (RAK) challenge.  Yes, folks, I am challenging you to perform one RAK per week with me.   The idea is simple.  Every Wednesday, check here on my blog or over on my Facebook page for the weekly challenge.  At some point in the next 7 days, complete the challenge.  Check back in and let us know that you’ve done your RAK for the week.  And then, do it all again the next week.  Do not underestimate the power of kindness.   Performing one little act each week will undoubtedly make the day better for someone else and will make you walk a little taller, smile a little wider and love life a lot more.

So, today’s challenge:

Random Acts of Kindness (Day 5)

I can’t believe I’ve made it to day 5!! Its not that I am a super evil person, but acting with kindness in an intentional way makes me think really hard about what I can do. This is not a normal thought pattern for me. My typical thought pattern is more along the lines of how much can I cross off my to-do list before I collapse into bed at the end of the day. (Functioning as a single mom of 3 while the hubs is a travelling can do that to a girl)

Anyway, once again, I have departed from the original list. Today was supposed to be the day to donate time or money to charity. Since I work on a Fridays and I actually made it to the office (First day all week we were ALL healthy) I didn’t donate time. Money was a little tight this week, so I didn’t do that either.

I gave someone a ride into work. Yes, it was a little self serving in that I got to use the carpool lane to/from work on a sunny Friday before a holiday weekend. But, I reached out before I thought of any of those things. I thought it would be nice to give someone a ride to work. She lives on the way, and if we get home sooner than taking the bus, so be it. (Yeah!!)

So, there you have it. 5th day completed. Bring on the next one!

Random Act of Kindness (Day 4)

ValentineToday was Random Act of Kindness (Day 4). According to the original post, today was a day to bring something sweet to treat your co-workers, a la Valentines Day. Well, the little man and I had a date with the pediatrician, so I sent a bag of cookies in with the older two, who had their Kindergarten Valentines Day party today. Granted the cookies had been made at Christmas time, by my mother, and then frozen, but that just means they were GOOD (notice the capital G?) 🙂

Currently, Im about to spoil my three little valentines with a movie and popcorn after a nice meal of Mac-n-Cheese. The movie is Cinderella and I can’t think of anything more appropriate. A girl who has worked hard enough, is good tempered enough to warrant the attention of a Fairy Godmother. Call me romantic, but in the modern world, I imagine the fairy godmother as a mentor who teaches her how to succeed in business and life in general.

Random Acts of Kindness – Day 2 and 3

ImageI missed posting about day 2 yesterday because I have become infected with the crud going around. Monday night, I was up till almost 2am with a sick boy, so Tues morning I decided I needed Starbucks after dropping the 1 out of 3 children in the house who was healthy.  While in line at Starbucks, I asked what the person behind me had ordered. A Venti coffee or something. I thought it was the perfect opportunity to do a RAK. Anonymous and simple. And, yes it did make me feel good to explain to my other children in the car all about doing kindness for other people. How it helps more than the other person, but it also helps us become better people.

Today, Im sad to say, was another day at home, hoping to keep all of us well, the 1 healthy child came home early from daycare yesterday. 😦 So, my random act of kindness was keeping this brood from infecting yours.

Stay healthy my friends, stay healthy
